Understanding REMs Training Workshop successfully conducted in Anda, Bohol

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region (MGB) 7 successfully conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on Understanding Risk Exposure Maps (REM)s training-workshop in the Municipality of Anda, Bohol on August 19, 2024.


The training workshop aimed to equip local government officials, local disaster risk and management personnel, department heads, community leaders, and residents with the knowledge and tools to understand and mitigate potential geological hazards in their town.


The one-day event presented informative topics on MGB-7’s vulnerability and risk assessment programs. There were also in-depth discussions on risk exposure mapping methodologies. Participants gained valuable insights into the critical role of gender equality in disaster preparedness and response. These discussions were led by Josephine T. Aleta (Supervising Geologist, Geohazards and Engineering Geology Section), Miguelita Mae E. Gonzales (Geologist), Harry P. Miñoza (GIS Specialist), and Heart Rizarri (Information Officer).


The training materials, including Risk Exposure Maps (REMs) and updated Geohazard Infographic posters, were distributed to all participants to aid in their efforts to enhance local resilience.


The activity was officially opened by Atty. Drib Laurence Ingles from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Atty. Ingles, along with Mr. Danilo A. Aton from the Department of Education (DepEd), delivered closing remarks, commending MGB-7 for organizing the training. Both officials emphasized the crucial role of local governments in disaster risk reduction and management. They also stressed the need to empower not only the local officials and DRRM teams but the entire community as well with the knowledge and skills necessary to build resilient communities.
