SEDC Enhances Efforts Against Plastic Waste in Cebu in Celebration of Philippine Environment Month 2025
In a commendable display of environmental responsibility, a group from Solid Earth Development Corporation (SEDC), led by Mr. Samuel O. Tagsip, Head of the Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Office (MEPEO), conducted a cleanup drive yesterday in Barangay Tinubdan, San Fernando. This initiative serves as a simple demonstration on managing waste and is part of their effort in support of ending plastic pollution. The cleanup was held in celebration of Philippine Environment Month 2025, which aligns with this year’s theme, “Ending Global Plastic Pollution.” The initiative also received support from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 7 (MGB-7).
Trash was not only collected from the lot and the surrounding area, but also from the water streams. The cleanup revealed significant amounts of plastic waste, including bottles, snack wrappers, and other single-use items, highlighting the urgent need to address improper waste disposal at the community level.
More than just a one-day effort, this activity served as a reminder that environmental care should be a daily practice. The team had the opportunity to consider incorporating it into the program’s methods to help communities manage their waste effectively. This may include developing informational and educational campaigns, providing accessible disposal options, and fostering stronger partnerships with local government.
Though their initiative may be small in scale, it conveys a powerful message: consistent grassroots efforts can ignite broader change, leading to a cleaner and healthier Cebu. (Heart Rizarri/IO MGB7)
