The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 has recommended the immediate evacuation and relocation of all the occupants along the river bank near the collapsed retaining wall of Casa del Rio subdivision project in Highway 77, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City.

It also recommended the reinforcement of retaining wall using high-quality and first-rate materials.

These recommendations were made after Senior Science Research Specialist Abraham R.Lucero Jr. conducted an ocular inspection on May 9.

He observed presence of cracks along the 60-meter long retaining wall and recommended immediate installation of cordon and signage to avoid accidents.

Based on the initial assessment of the area, he observed that the soil composition of the affected area is mostly limestone materials. He added that the damage on the retaining wall was 30 meters long.

The 6-meter high wall collapsed on Tuesday evening that resulted to two deaths and six injured.

An Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) was issued to Commonwealth Estate Inc. as represented by Operations Manager Engr. Reynaldo Sanchez Jr. for the Casa del Rio Subdivision project located in Highway 77, Barangay Talamban last April 2, 2009.
