NEW CEBU CITY ENRO PERSONNEL RECEIVE ANTI-ILLEGAL MINING TRAINING

Newly installed personnel of the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) received an orientation on the different laws, rules, and regulations against illegal mining conducted by the officials of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7.

 
The training aimed to enhance their personnel’s knowledge of illegal mining activities as they gear towards intensifying their operations against illegal quarrying and hauling of minerals in Cebu City as requested by CCENRO Chief Arlie Gesta.
 
“This is meant to empower the new members of our team and refresh us on the pertinent mining laws in the country, to educate us on the proper implementation of the laws, discuss enforcement mechanisms and to encourage compliance of permitees and prevent illegal mining activities,” Gesta said.

 
MGB 7 Legal Officer Atty. Cid Jerome O. Navarez discussed the legal basis of conducting apprehension, seizure, confiscation, and disposition of illegally sourced minerals/mineral products and by-products, tools, conveyances, and equipment in the commission of an offense.

 
The Mine Management Division Head Engr. Edgardo C. Loquellano presented relevant provisions of RA 7942 and Types of Mining Permits while Engr. Edward S Malahay talked about the kinds of transport and apprehension documents and operational scenarios for the enforcement of mining laws, rules, and regulations.

Atty. Klive Erick D. Ravanes of CCENRO discussed the Guidelines and Requirements in the Issuance of Mining Permits set by the City Government as embodied in the City Mining Ordinance No. 2115.

After the enforcement training, the participating personnel was deputized as ENR Officers for MGB 7. Engr Loquellano led the oath-taking ceremony. The enforcement training on Anti-Illegal Mining was held at CREMDEC, Cebu City on September 6, 2022.
