The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office VII hosted the Workshop on Standardization of Procedures for Sub-Surface Hazard Assessment last May 24-26, 2016 held at the Alpa City Suites, Cebu.  The workshop was conducted by personnel from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Central Office.  

In his welcome message, MGB-VII Regional Director Loreto B. Alburo, CESO VI, emphasized the importance of the subsidence hazard assessment work in identifying safe areas for development and other uses. Ms. Liza Soccoro J. Manzano, Supervising Science Research Specialist of the Lands Geological Survey Division, MGB-CO led the lecturers of the workshop. Other resource persons include Ms. Catherine F. Rivas, GIS Specialist, Mr. Dominic Ross D. Agot, GIS Specialist and Maria Ina Katrina D. Bondal, Geologist, all from MGB-CO.  Dr. Leilani O. Suerte, MGB-VI Supervising Geologist and Ms. Abigail June L. Agus, MGB-XI Supervising   Geologist shared their experience using Ground Penetrating Radar. 

Topics discussed include Subsidence Hazard Assessment Methodology Knowledge Sharing: Bohol Experience, IFSAR-DEM and Arc-GIS Methods for Sinkhole Mapping, Production of Sink-Depth Models, IFSAR-DEM Interpretation and Sinkhole Inventory using IFSAR-DEM , Sinkhole Inventory using Topo Map and IFSAR-DEM, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Survey and Image Interpretation and Report Preparation (including deliverables).

Participants of the workshop were personnel consisting of Geologists, GIS Specialists and Geologic Aides from mgMGB-CO, MGB-CAR, MGB-I, MGB-VI, MGB-VII, MGB-VIII, MGB-IX, MGB-X, MGB-XI and MGB-XII.

Workshop participants were later deployed to Bohol Province to conduct Subsidence Hazard Assessment of municipalities affected by the October 2013 Bohol earthquake.
