The Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region 7 (MGB-7), through its Mine Safety and Health Section (MSHS) of the Mines Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD) will resume the conduct of training workshops for safety officers / employees of the various mining/mineral processing companies in Region 7 starting on the 2nd Semester of 2016.
The training / workshop has been one of MGB-7’s foremost activities since 2005 until it was stopped sometime in 2013. Significantly, the program has a very positive impact on the safety performances of the mining companies in Region 7. Testament to this was the consistency and regularity these mining companies were reaping the safety awards in various categories during the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Awards (PMSEA) conventions held annually in Baguio City, Philippines. In 2015 alone, the following companies garnered corresponding awards during the PMSEA National Convention in Baguio City, to wit:

SEDC Champion, Safest Quarry (2nd straight year)
PMSC-Alcoy 1st Runner-up, Safest Processing Plant
SEDC (Joel Sombelon) 1st Runner-up, Best Safety Officer (2nd straight year)
The training / workshop aims to enhance the technical capability of the respective companies’ Safety and Health organization, particularly in the various aspects on safety inspections and reporting, accident/incident investigations, among others, as embodied in the DAO 2000-98 (Mine Safety and Health Standards). Thus, after completion of the training workshop, the participants shall have become more effective in the conduct of their duties and responsibilities as implementer of the company’s commitment to its employees in promoting safety as primordial concern in the workplace.
The module of the 3-day training workshop will focus on the following topics:
- Salient Provisions of the DAO 2000-98
- Duties and Responsibilities of the Employer and Safety Officers
- Rights and Duties of the Employees
- Safety Inspections
- Accident / Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Recording of Safety Performance
- Penal Provisions
On the last day of the training workshop, there will be a presentation of workshop outputs by the participants. Finally, an examination will be administered, whereby passers will be given certificates of completion, and non-passers will only be given certificates of attendance.
