Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 geologists Russyl Bryile Anthony Q. Lanzaderas and Dennis Gerald A. Aleta, along with other technical personnel from other MGB regional offices participated in a five-day workshop on resource estimation techniques last November 25-29, 2019 in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

The activity aimed to enhance the capacity and knowledge of the MGB technical personnel in using the software application for in mineral resource estimation techniques.

It discussed the discipline of statistics covering classical and geostatistical through a corresponding computer software application, mineral resources or reserves, laterites and gold mineralization or deposits.

The training also provided support for MGB personnel in validating areas with potential mineral resources under the Mineral Reservation Project.

Geologist Dr. Rogel Santos, Vice President for Operations of Macroasia, gave interesting lectures on the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code, statistics, ore reserves, and some case studies.

University of the Philippines professor and consultant Dr. Rogelio Laraya also discussed vital information on mineral resources, statistical methods, and industry practices.

Meanwhile, professor and consultant Ms. Arlene Aguila-Morales provided hands-on training and exercises on geostatistics using the Geovia-Surpac software.

Resource estimation using statistical analysis of data will be able to fill the gaps and provide scientific inference on the limitation and extension of possible potential areas for detailed mineral exploration.

Surpac Software will ease out the statistical analysis of actual survey field data, samplings, chemical or assay analysis, and drilling campaigns.

The week-long training was organized by MGB Central Office and Paramina Earth Technologies, Inc. in partnership with Dassault Systemes. /IO
