In line with its commitment to disaster preparedness and environmental protection, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 7 (MGB 7) continues to strengthen its Geohazard Awareness and Preparedness Campaign across Central Visayas.

As a guest during the Kapihan sa PIA 7, MGB 7 representative Josephine T. Aleta, Supervising Geologist of the Geohazards and Engineering Geology Section,, MGB 7 representatives discussed the importance of geohazard awareness and the agency’s ongoing initiatives to mitigate risks associated with natural disasters. The forum, held as part of the LIVE: Kapihan sa PIA on the topic: “National Disaster Resilience Month 2024” and “Handa Pilipinas 2024”, featured guests from the Office of the Civil Defense 7 (OCD-7), PAGASA Visayas, Mines and Geosciences Bureau 7 (MGB-7), and Department of Science and Technology 7 (DOST-7). It provided a platform to highlight key programs and strategies in ensuring community safety against landslides, flooding, and other geohazards.

Through various information drives, MGB 7 aims to educate communities on the risks associated with geohazards, such as landslides and flooding, and to promote proactive measures for disaster mitigation. The campaign emphasizes the importance of geohazard mapping, early warning systems, and community involvement in disaster risk reduction.

In collaboration with national and local government agencies, MGB 7 regularly conducts geohazard assessments and technical training to equip stakeholders, including local disaster risk reduction officers, with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to geohazard-related threats.

The bureau also underscores the significance of responsible land use planning, ensuring that communities and infrastructures are situated in safe areas. By integrating geohazard awareness into development planning, MGB 7 contributes to building disaster-resilient communities in the region. (IO/MGB 7)
