Filamer Christian University Students Explore Mining and
Geology with MGB 7
The College of Business and Accountancy at Filamer Christian University in Roxas City recently had an engaging educational journey, immersing its third-year students in the fields of mining and geology. Integrated into their “Audit and Assurance: Specialized Industry” curriculum, this educational tour aimed to offer students firsthand insights into these vital sectors.
With a group of 14 students and two dedicated instructors, Ms. Elyca Ariaga and Mr. Sheen Frederick Gatchalian, the college collaborated with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 7 for this educational tour last August 22, 2023, in Banilad, Mandaue City.
Throughout this enriching experience, students explored various facets of the mining industry. They observed exploration processes, delved into environmental management intricacies, and acquired knowledge about geology. These in-depth topics bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world practice. Students also had the opportunity to examine and handle various types of rocks found in Central Visayas, each receiving a rock as a cherished memento courtesy of Geosciences Division.
Al Emil G. Berador, Geosciences Division Chief, expressed his gratitude for the visit and hoped that their contributions enhanced the students’ learning experience. He aspired that the students had gained a profound understanding of mining, responsible mining practices, and geology during their visit.
Ms. Ariaga extended her gratitude to MGB 7, emphasizing that the discussions had imparted valuable insights into the mining and geology industries, potentially unveiling exciting career opportunities for the students.
The visit encompassed comprehensive discussions on various aspects of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, including its history, mission, vision, and objectives. Informative presentations were delivered by Information Officer (COS) Heart Rizarri, Engr. Anjaylove Geniston, Engr. Janica Medalle and JC Santos, covering topics such as Mineral Resources Management Services , Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development, and Geosciences Services. (MGB7/IO)
