FCU BSA Students Attend Onsite Lecture at MGB 7

Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) students from Filamer Christian University in Roxas, Capiz attended an onsite lecture at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 7 as part of their educational tour on June 13, 2024. The seminar provided an overview of the Philippine mining industry, offering the students valuable insights into various aspects of the field.

The seminar began with welcome remarks from Atty. Gleen A. Revilla-Maravilla, MGB 7 Legal Officer. She expressed gratitude for the students’ visit and emphasized the importance of such educational tours in bridging academic knowledge with practical industry experience. Atty. Maravilla highlighted the seminar as an excellent opportunity for students to gain firsthand exposure to mining management and operations.

The agenda included several key topics essential to understanding the mining sector. Engr. Reina Frances D. Requiron, Engineer III from the Mine Management Division, presented an overview of the mining industry and detailed the procedures and requirements for obtaining mining permits in the Philippines. Following this, Engr. Anjaylove S. Geniston of the Mine Safety, Environment, and Social Development Division (MSESDD) discussed the critical roles and services his division provides, emphasizing the importance of safety, environmental protection, and community development in mining operations. Concluding the seminar, Dr. Dennis Gerald A. Aleta, PhD, Supervising Geologist for the General and Economic Geology Section in the Geosciences Division, delivered a presentation on geological mapping techniques and mineral exploration. Dr. Aleta also allowed students to handle various rock samples at the Geoscience Department, providing a tangible connection to the theoretical concepts discussed.

Prizes were also given to students for correctly answering trivia questions at the end of each lecture, adding an element of fun and engagement to the learning experience.

The session brought together industry professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities within the Philippine mining sector. The students gained a comprehensive understanding of the field, which will be beneficial for their academic and professional development.
