CCMRB Intensifies Efforts to Combat Illegal Mining in Cebu City
The Cebu City Mining Regulatory Board (CCMRB) stepped up its efforts to combat illegal mining in the region by hosting an enforcement training program on August 12, 2024. Organized by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 7, the training brought together key personnel from local government units, law enforcement agencies, and selected barangay units.
CCMRB Chairman Atty. Dominic A. Doño requested MGB Region 7 to deputize personnel who attended the training to ensure the effective implementation of mining regulations in Cebu City.
The training program focused on equipping participants with the skills to effectively identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in illegal mining activities. Topics covered included legal frameworks, evidence collection, and enforcement strategies.
MGB Region 7 speakers Engr. Edgardo C. Loquellano, Engr. Edward S. Malahay, Atty. Gleen A. Revilla-Maravilla, and Atty. Klive Eric Ravanes, CCENRO Legal Officer, led the training, providing valuable insights and guidance to participants.
This initiative demonstrates Cebu City’s commitment to protecting the environment and upholding the law. The city aims to deter illegal mining by empowering its law enforcement officers, mitigating their harmful impacts, and promoting responsible mining in Cebu City.
“Illegal mining activities pose a significant threat to our environment and communities,” said Engr. Armando L. Malicse, MGB Region 7 Regional Director. “By enhancing law enforcement capabilities, we aim to protect our natural resources and promote sustainable development.”
The event culminated with the oath-taking of deputized personnel, signifying their commitment to upholding the law and protecting the environment from the detrimental effects of illegal mining.
