Employees of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for the first quarter of 2024 on March 25 in Banilad, Mandaue City.

The drill aimed to test the efficiency and usefulness of the Office’s response, recovery, and contingency plans, as well as the coordination and communication mechanisms during response operations.

The drill also served as a means to promote awareness among employees, equipping them with the necessary knowledge, attitude, and practices in responding to earthquakes.

A total of 53 employees joined the simulation executing the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure as soon as the simulated earthquake started with a two-minute wailing siren.

When the siren alarm stopped, the participants quickly evacuated the buildings towards the designated evacuation area for headcount.

A post-drill evaluation was conducted by Cristi Cesar Megraso of the Geosciences Division, where positive observations and opportunities for improvement were noted. (IO)
