The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), in collaboration with the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA), will bestow the Presidential Mineral Industry Environment Awards (PMIEA), Safest Mines Awards to mining contractors. 

 

In time for the 63rd Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference, PMSEA will recognize Mining Contractors, Permittees and Permit Holders who have demonstrated excellent records on safety and health, environmental management, social community development, and reforestation initiatives.

MGB- 7 Regional Director Loreto B. Alburo said mining companies are urged to submit required reports and documentation, including the company’s safety records, and the contractor’s service records. Staffs that have shown exemplary commitment to environmental protection may be nominated for the Mines Best Personalities. The companies are also encouraged to submit their Mining Forest Program Accomplishment Report.

All programs and initiatives submitted must be done within the prescribed period of July 2015 to June 2016.

The Mines and Safety and Health Section (MSHS) of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD) will conduct preliminary evaluation and verification. Recommendations from MGB-7 on who may be qualify for the prestigious PMIE Award will be submitted to MGB Central Office for final deliberation.

Among the recipients of last year’s PMSEA awards are: Apo Cement Corporation (Presidential Award, PMIEA (Platinum), Apo Cement Corporation (Champion, Safest Cement Plant (2nd straight year)); Solid Earth Development Corp. (Champion, Safest Quarry (2nd straight year)), Phil. Mining Service Corp. – Alcoy (1st Runner-up, safest processing plant), Carmen Copper Corporation (1st Runner-up, Best Mining Forest), Joel Sombelon of SEDC (1st Runner-up, Best Safety Officer (2nd straight year)).

Deadline for the submission of documents will be on August 15, 2016.
