Solid Earth Development Corporation (SEDC) leads its annual PlastiKalikasan Clean-up Program for Earth Day, April 22, to actively minimize plastic waste and promote responsible practices in its mining areas.

Now in its second year, the initiative brought together employees and host communities with support from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 7 (MGB 7). Teams conducted cleanup activities in Barangay Tinubdan, Municipality of San Fernando, and Barangay Duangan, Municipality of Pinamungajan, Cebu.

The activity resulted in the collection of more than 20 sacks of waste, comprising not only plastic materials but also other forms of solid waste. The outcome emphasizes the ongoing need for sustained waste management initiatives and the importance of community participation in environmental protection efforts.

“Protecting the environment requires partnerships and passion. SEDC’s clean-up drive demonstrates what’s possible when we unite for a common cause.” MGB 7 Regional Director Al Emil G. Berador said.

By conducting an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) session on the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP) in Barangay Duangan, SEDC engaged community members, including Barangay Captain Carlos Ponting, Jr., and Barangay Councilor Ryan Balbuena, in environmental education. This session directly supported local awareness and understanding.

SEDC incorporates the PlastiKalikasan Clean-up Program into its 2026 Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (AEPEP), thereby ensuring compliance with the Mineral Production Sharing Agreements (MPSAs) covering its limestone and silica sand quarry operations. SEDC aligns with regional policies to demonstrate regulatory achievement.

Through initiatives such as PlastiKalikasan, SEDC implements practical, community-driven approaches to plastic waste reduction and fosters environmental awareness and shared responsibility among its workforce and host communities.

SEDC, led by MEPEO Head Engr. Samuel O. Tagsip extends its sincere appreciation to all participants, partners, and MGB 7 for their invaluable support in advancing a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Cebu. (Heart Rizarri/IO)
