TEN mining and quarrying companies across Cebu and Bohol planted a combined 2,310 seedlings as part of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau’s (MGB) Simultaneous Nationwide Tree Planting Activity. The initiative, held in observance of 2026 Philippine Environment Month and in support of the Mining Engineers’ Convention (MinECon 2026), turned former quarry sites, plant nurseries, and rehabilitation zones into the morning’s planting grounds.

But this is far more than a one-day event. Every seedling planted is part of the Mining Forest Program (MFP) — a long-term reforestation commitment mandated by the MGB under its Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD). Under the MFP, mining companies establish, maintain, and grow forest cover within and around their tenement areas — with seedling inventories submitted semi-annually to MGB and survival rates regularly monitored and validated.

The results speak for themselves: as of December 2025, Central Visayas mining companies have cumulatively planted over 3 million seedlings across more than 1,960 hectares, with an 86.96% tree survival rate to date — a testament to what long-term commitment to the environment looks like.

From mangroves in Alcoy to Narra seedlings in Toledo, fruit trees in Bohol, and bamboo in Danao, over 135 employees, volunteers, and members of neighboring communities came together to bring the day’s reforestation effort to life.  And the momentum doesn’t stop here — these same companies are gearing up to plant again on Philippine Arbor Day, June 25, 2026, adding even more trees to Central Visayas’ growing green cover.

The activity was conducted nationwide simultaneously on June 12, 2026.
