MGB 7 PARTICIPATES IN INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP DAY 2026 IN LAPU-LAPU CITY
Demonstrating dedicated environmental stewardship, about 27 participants from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region VII (MGB7), led by Regional Director Al Emil G. Berador, joined hands with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Visayas, local government units (LGUs), and community volunteers for the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day 2026 on September 19, 2026.
Expressing his gratitude following the successful event, RD Al commended MGB 7 division chiefs and personnel for their active participation and enthusiasm in supporting one of the world’s most significant annual environmental initiatives. He emphasized that participating in the ICC goes beyond collecting debris—it is a vital, practical demonstration of environmental education for local communities.
Given that the Visayas region is an archipelago surrounded by vast coastlines, protecting marine and coastal ecosystems is directly linked to coastal protection, local livelihoods, and overall community resilience.
Guided by this year’s theme, “Clean Seas for Resilient Communities,” the MGB 7 team gathered early at 5:30 AM at Bridge Park in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City (First Bridge area). During the coordinated cleanup, waste identification, and segregation drive, the team successfully collected 15 sacks of coastal waste.
The initial site tally of key segregated materials included:
Cloth: 117.0 kg
Plastics: 60.5 kg
Glass: 8.5 kg
Rubber: 5 kg
Total Key Waste Segregated: 191.0 kg
Through collective action alongside DENR CV, LGU Lapu-Lapu City, and local stakeholders, MGB 7 reinforces its commitment to promoting sustainable resource management, raising public environmental awareness, and safeguarding coastal communities across Central Visayas. (IO)
