MGB 7 Employees Trained on Life-Saving Skills
Twenty-eight employees of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office 7 (MGB 7) completed a two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) Training Workshop facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 7 on August 19–20, 2025 at the Montebello Villa Hotel.
In his welcome message, MGB 7 OIC Regional Director Al Emil G. Barador expressed gratitude to the BFP 7 resource persons for sharing their expertise with MGB employees. He highlighted the importance of equipping personnel with life-saving knowledge and skills to ensure safety not only in the workplace but also in their communities.
The training covered critical emergency response skills such as handling cardiac arrest, performing CPR for adults and infants, providing aid in drowning incidents, and responding to choking emergencies—including infants in distress. Participants were also guided on the proper use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)—a device vital in responding to sudden cardiac arrest.
On the second day, employees took practical examinations, during which they demonstrated their ability to perform CPR, operate an AED, and respond to emergency scenarios. The exam proved both challenging and nerve-wracking, as participants were required to apply their skills under pressure, simulating real-life emergencies. While many admitted feeling nervous, the experience ultimately boosted their confidence and readiness to respond.
MGB 7 extended its appreciation to the BFP 7 team of resource persons, namely SFO1 Jeric F. Alburo, FO3 Ernido C. Baya Jr., FO2 Emer Arnold A. Chu, FO1 Mark Hegel H. Layague, FO1 Carl Timothy A. Coto, and FO1 Lovelyn A. Francisco, for leading the sessions and ensuring the success of the training.
RD Barador also thanked the Finance and Administrative Division, led by Aira L. Torregosa, for their initiative in organizing and collaborating with BFP 7 to make the training possible.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Torregosa expressed gratitude to the resource persons for their comprehensive lectures, patience in demonstrating and teaching, and for being firm yet supportive during the practical exams. She noted that although the resource team was strict and somewhat rigid in evaluating performance, the participants deeply appreciated the discipline and professionalism, which made the training more meaningful and effective.
The next batch of MGB 7 employees is scheduled to undergo the same BLS training next month, further strengthening the bureau’s efforts in building a well-prepared and safety-conscious workforce. (IO/MGB7)
